The Gaming Giant Hires Popular Battle Royale Producer to Revitalize Struggling Hero Shooter Project Ethos

2K Games has welcomed a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to direct the studio crew at 31st Union, which is currently working on the upcoming third-person roguelike extraction-shooter known as this innovative game.

Leadership Transition Follows Mixed Feedback

The new appointee assumes the leadership position at 31st Union following the exit of previous head Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to the game's disappointing initial reveal last fall.

Recently, the company's top executive David Ismailer notified staff about this strategic move through an internal memo, which highlighted that early feedback sessions had revealed the need for a distinct vision.

The president noted that the developers is now refining the project with a renewed focus, aiming to better meet community desires.

Trend of Strategic Hires

The news echoes a comparable move taken by 2K Games in August, when they hired Rod Fergusson from Blizzard to work on the BioShock studio Cloud Chamber.

Below is the entire content from Ismailer's memo:

Dear Team—

I understand you all just finished your gathering - I trust you’re as excited as I am with the positive developments. Previously I shared you all a note, I stated the following: “I am confident in this crew. You all are some of the most driven and innovative designers we have had the chance to work with - and we’re excited for that collaboration to continue.”

Given your hard work and adaptability, especially over the past twelve months, you consistently demonstrate that.

The gamer responses from last fall’s the game playtest was informative. It validated the appeal of a action-packed game but told us we still had improvements to make. It revealed the necessity for a more distinct brand.

The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve progressed. You embraced the criticism to mind and overhauled the title with a revitalized direction - one that’s positioned to achieve its potential to our audience.

Our confidence in this project strengthens every day. To further the remarkable development you’ve made, I am thrilled to welcome Ben Brinkman as the new Lead of 31st Union. After several months of discussions, Ben starts with us on next week.

Ben’s management and experience in the PVP shooter space is considerable, having devoted the past decade and a half creating and leading some of the most recognizable series in gaming, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops, and more recently, the battle royale hit.

Please join me in greeting Ben soon. We are all looking forward to continue witnessing the development of the game in the weeks to follow.

David

Experience of the New Head

The appointee presently holds the position of senior developer and head of production at Respawn Entertainment for their flagship title. He previously worked at Treyarch and Activision in multiple development positions on the Call of Duty series, and, prior to that, had periods at 2K and Electronic Arts.

Game Details and Concept

Project Ethos was announced in last year together with a public demo. Then, the developers portrayed the game as a "free-to-play, third-person perspective roguelike hero shooter and an innovative step forward on the genre."

"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Customize your character in real-time to fit your unique tactics," the official summary reads. "Take on the competition with fresh skills, risks, and challenges that evolve every match. Will you withdraw carefully with your collected items? Or take a risk, risk it all, and hope your squad can earn top ranking? The decision is yours."

Project Ethos lacks an official release date or consoles, but enthusiasts can look forward to additional details as development progresses.
